Woolly Wensleydale – A Floccose Dalliance in the Dales

Do you know what I would do if I could time travel?  I would ask Past Penny to remember to photograph her recently purchased locally sourced wool in one of the many picturesque locations by which she was surrounded.  Maybe artfully perched upon a magnificent dry stone wall?  Or placed thoughtfully atop a skillfully constructed bridge with the breathtaking Yorkshire Dales National Park as a backdrop?  After all, it would be ever so useful when she gets back home and wants to document her adventures.  Instead we have to use our imaginations, an inherited rockery and some unkempt garden furniture.  Feast your eyes on some Wensleydale Longwool yarn:

My goodness me, have you been to the Yorkshire Dales in late Summer?  The frankly already ridiculously beautiful and richly contoured patchwork of fields and farms is further enhanced by the heaped rows and crocheted pinwheels of the barley harvest.  The valleys are dressed in shades of emerald, ochre and sienna and the rivers are the colour of expensive guest ales.

If you dally a while in these Dales you may well return from your dalliance like me with a new obsession (the yarn of the Wensleydale Longwool Sheep) and an idea for a scarf pattern.  By the By.  Isn’t Wensleydale Longwool the best name for a sheep and by extension isn’t the Wensleydale Longwool Sheepshop the best name for a yarn shop?
