To gently segue from sewing back to librarianship and cpd 23 here is a post covering some crafty-slanted social media sites:
Photo and image sharing sites
Flickr – Social media, photosharing, photostorage.
Image Spark – Social media centered around image sharing, moodboard creation and sharing. If I’ve understood the ‘Terms of Use correctly then this Canadian site suggests that you only post images if you own the copyright or have prior permission.
Picasa – Photo and video content storage and sharing. By Google so links with Google+.
Pinterest – Social media centered around image sharing, moodboard creation and sharing. There has been discussion recently about the Pinterest Terms of Service which I understand state that if you use an image that is not your own, then you are responsible for any copyright infringement. Phil Bradley has written a lovely summary of the issues around the sharing of photos that are not your own. New terms of Service come in to force on 6/4/12.
Craft sites
BurdaStyle – Sewing themed online community and marketplace; commercial and non-commercial elements.
craftgawker – Craft ideas, inspiration and tutorials, set firmly in the non-commercial camp.
Etsy – Craft themed marketplace. Vintage and modern mix with hand-crafted. Vast array of sewing patterns.
Folksy – British hand-crafted items for sale. No vintage.
ravelry – Yarn-craft themed online community and marketplace; commercial and non-commercial elements.
I am sure that there are many others out there. Please feel free to comment and share your top tips, best-loved sites and trade secrets. Cheers me dears.
